NZ Streetstock G.P

The NZ Streetstock G.P attracted just shy of fifty
cars and was run on the one night . Sadly this meant two groups of cars
had to run 3 heats of qualifying each before the three heat finals could
get under way . The first heat of the finals did not see the green until
after 10 pm , the second heat at 10.50 pm and the final heat
got the go at at about 11.20pm not that there were too many people
left around to see it .
It was all rather a shame really because the racing for
the G.P was really good , plenty of contact and the streetstock keen
spectators were obviously happy with what they saw judging by the cheering
and applause that went on .
I left at 11.30 pm straight after the third heat of the
finals not knowing for sure the final placings for the G.P . Looking at
the results
sheet on the Waikaraka site there appears to have been a run off after
that for 3rd and 4th in the championship . BTW that results sheet suggests
there was other racing after the thrid heat of the G.P , not so , the third
heat was the final event of the night barring the run off .
Other classes running were Std Stocks , Ministocks , Modifieds
and Ltd Saloons . Field sizes were on the small side although once again
the racing was quite watchable .
Lots of good things happening at Waikaraka
this season but one of the most important aspects , the race night management
, is still not meeting the grade . Too long between events and too much
time spent lining cars up on their grids are just two of the points that
need addressing urgently . Of course starting this particular meeting 30
mins late just added to it's woes .
